简介:TakingAnsaiCountylocatedinloesshillyandgullyareaasacase,thisstudyanalyzesthelandusechangesdrivenbytheSLCP(SlopeLandConversionProgram)andthefarmers'responsesbyhouseholdsurveyandparticipatoryrapidappraisal(PRA).ItisfoundthattheSLCParousedvariouschangesinlanduse,agriculturalproduction,ruralincomes,etc.Intheperiodof1999-2005,thefarmlandandgrasslandswerereducedby26,809haand17,571harespectively,whileforestlandincreasedby38,203ha;greenhousevegetableandorchardgotaquickdevelopment,withtheareaenlargedbyabout7timesandnearlydoubledrespectively.TheSLCPreducedtheareaofcropsparticularlythosethatnormallygrownonslopelands,e.g.thesowingareaofwinterwheatdroppedfrom19.39%ofthetotalcroppingareain1999to0.98%in2005.Draughtanimals,pigsandsheephaveadeclineinthenumberbecausetheremainedlandandthebanongrazingonnaturalgrasslandscannotprovidesufficientfeedforage.Thankstothefinancialsubsidy,farmersincreasedlandinputsandthusoutputs.Toachievelong-termsustain-abledevelopmentandimproveruralincome,thegovernmentshouldcontinuouslysupportfarmerstoimprovethelandmanagement,toadoptalternativelandusesystems,andtoincreaseinputsonsoilconservation.Vegetableandfruitproductionaretwopromiselandusesystems,andshouldbefurtherdeveloped.
简介:QingtianCountyofZhejiangProvince,Chinahasmaintainedthetraditionalrice-fishagricultureforabout2,000yearsandformedexceptionalculturalheritagebasedonthiskindofproductionmode,soitwasselectedbyFAOasapilotsitefortherice-fishagriculturalheritagesystemsin2005.ThisresearchhasappliedtheindicatorsofecologicalfootprintandbiocapacitytomonitortheenvironmentalconditionsofQingtianCounty,aimingtofindtheimpactthatthetraditionalagriculturalproductionmodeandthelocalinhabitantslifestylehaveplacedonthelocalenvironmentalconditionsaswellastheroletheyhaveplayedinmaintainingecologicalbalance,culturalinheritanceandregionalsustainabledevelopment.ResultsshowthatQingtianCountyischaracterizedbyanearlybreakeventotalecologicalbalance,asopposedtoZhejiangProvince,theworldandotheragriculturalregions.However,comparedwithanotherrice-fishagriculturalregion,CongjiangCountywhichenjoysaconsiderableecologicalreserve,QingtianCountyhasconsumedagreateramountofenvironmentalresources.Specifically,abouthalfoftheecologicalfootprintofQingtianCountycanbeattributedtothecropland(50.8%)whiletheCO2areaonlyaccountsfor11.2%,whichisdramaticallydifferentfromthatofthemodernindustrializedregions.AndavastofpercentageofenergyiscausedbythecombustionoffuelwoodwhichnotonlyrequiresthelandtoabsorbtheCO2emissionithasgeneratedbutalsooccupiestheforestwhereithasbeenchopped.

简介:TheCrestedIbis(NipponiaNippon)isendemictoQinlingMountainsofChinaandwasonceabundantovervastareasofnorth-eastofAsiahabitat.Duringthe20thcentury,however,thepopulationdeclinedgreatlyinnumbers.Habitatqualityusedtobethemainthreattothisspeciesbutrecentactionsbythegovernmentandwildlifeprotectionorganizationshavebroughtthisundercontrol.WiththeestablishmentofCrestedIbisNatureReserveinChina,conflictsbetweensocio-economicdevelopmentandCrestedIbisconservationhavebecomemoreacute.HowdowedealwiththerelationbetweenCrestedIbisconservationandcommunitydevelopment?Inthisstudy,theCrestedIbisNatureReserveco-managementmodelnamely'companies+farmers+NatureReserve'modelisproposedandevaluatedwithdemonstrationinvestigationmethods,includingcontinuoussix-yearfixed-sitesocio-economicdevelopmentdataofsurroundingcommunity,companysalesrevenuedataandmonitoreddataofCrestedIbisNatureReserve.Theresultsshowthatfarmers'incomeandconservationawarenessincreasedgreatlyfrom2003to2008;companysalesrevenuehasincreasedbyabout20%annuallyintherecentyears;managementlevelhasnoticeablyimprovedinNatureReserve,thescopeofCrestedIbishabitathasexpanded50hm2;chemicalcompositionofhabitatreducedyearafteryear;andthenumberofCrestedIbishadbeengrowingannually.Attheend,thesuccessofthemodelisevaluated,andproblemsinimplementationofthemodelarediscussedfromthefollowingaspects:managementsystem,co-managementconcept,economicbaseofpartners,marketingmechanism,technicalcapacityandsoon.
