TheapplicationofLanthanumBromide(LaBr3)detectorsprovidesauniqueopportunitytomeasurelifetimeofexcitedstatesinpicosecond-nanosecondregion.Reducingthebackgroundisofcriticalimportancetogetpreciseresults.Forsomeexcitedstatesfeedingfromisomerswithlifetimelongerthan1μs,itcanbeachievedbytheSpectrometerforHeavyAtomandNuclearStructure(SHANS)[1].143Eunucleiwerepopulatedviathe123Sb(24Mg,4n)fusion-evaporationreaction.Mostoftheevaporationresiduesatgroundstateorlong-livedisomersweretransferredtodetectionterminalafteraflightofabout1.4μsinSHANS.Inthecaseof143Eu,threetransitionshavebeenobserved(Fig.1).
