EFFECT OF MOLECULAR WEIGHT OF PEO ON THE STRUCTURE AND PROPERTIES OF PDMAEMA/PEO HYDROGELS

Anewkindofbinaryhydrogelscomposedofpoly(dimethylaminoethylmethacrylate)(PDMAEMA)andpoly(ethyleneoxide)(PEO)withvaryingweightaveragemolecularweights((?)_w=5×10~4,1×10~5and2.5×10~6)werepreparedbyγ-irradiationtechnology.ThepropertiesofPDMAEMA/PEOhydrogelsobtainedwereevaluatedintermsofgelfraction,gelstrength,thermalcharacterizationandswellingbehavior.ThegelstrengthandswellingdegreeofthehydrogelscouldbeimprovedobviouslyafteraddingPEOintothePDMAEMAsystem,whilethedegreeofimprovementdecreasedwithincreasing(?)_wofPEO.ThetemperaturesensitivityofPDMAEMA/PEOwasretainedonlyinthesamplewithPEOof(?)_w=5×10~4,andthepHsensitivitywasretainedinsampleswithPEOof(?)_w=5×10~4and1×10~5.WhenDMAEMA/PEOmixturescontainingPEOof(?)_w=5×10~4wereirradiated,themainreactioncouldbethecross-linkingofDMAEMA,andthelinearPEOmolecularchainscouldpenetrateintothecross-linkednetworkofPDMAEMA.Withincreasing(?)_wofPEO,somesidereactionswereinduced,suchasgraftingofDMAEMAontoPEOmolecules,thescissionorcross-linkingofPEO.
