Theproblemoftransientstabilityforasinglemachineinfinitebussystemwithturbinemainsteamvalvecontrolisaddressedbymeansofanoveladaptivebacksteppingmethodinthispaper.Therecursivedesignprocedureoftheproposedcontrollerismuchsimplerthanthatoftheexistingcontrollerbasedonconventionaladaptivebacksteppingmethod.Inthesystem,thedampingcoefficientismeasuredinaccurately,andthereactanceoftransmissionlinealsocontainsafewuncertainties.Anonlinearrobustcontrollerandparameterupdatinglawsareobtainedsimultaneously.Thesystemdoesnotneedtobelinearized,andtheclosed-looperrorsystemisguaranteedtobeasymptoticallystable.Thedesignprocedureandsimulationresultsdemonstratetheeffectivenessoftheproposeddesign.
