  • 简介:Thesemibatchemulsifier-freeemulsioncopolymerizationofmethylmethacrylate(MMA)andbutylacrylate(BA)inthepresenceof2-hydroxyethylmethacrylate(HEMA)initiatedbyK2S2O8(PSP)wasstudied.Thelatexparticlescanmaintainanappreciablestabilityduringtheemulsifier-freeemulsioncopolymerizationofMMAandBAinthepresenceofHEMA.Theaverageparticlediameterincreasewithanincreaseoftotalsolidscontent,HEMAcontent,PSPcontent,ionicstrengthofthesystemandmonomerfeedrate,anddecreasewiththemonomerfeedrationfrom3/1(MMA/BA:molarration).to1/3.ThestabilityofthisreactionsystemisimprovedbyaddingHEMAasnonioniccomonomer,Highsolidscontent(50%)latexwithmonodisperseparticlecanbeobtainedusingthisprocess.

  • 简介:Thekineticsofsuspendedemulsionpolymerizationofmethylmethacrylate(MMA),inwhichwateractedasthedispersedphaseandthemixtureofMMAandcyclohexaneasthecontinuousphase,wasinvestigated.Itshowedthattheinitialpolymerizationrate(Rp0)andsteady-statepolymerizationrate(Rp)wereproportionaltothemassratiobetweenwaterandoilphase,andincreasedasthepolymerizationtemperature,thepotassiumpersulphateconcentration([I])andtheTween20emulsifierconcentration([S])increased.Therelationshipsbetweenthepolymerizationrateand[I]and[S]wereobtainedasfollows:Rp0∝[I]0.73[S]0.32andRp∝[I]0.71[S]0.23.TheaboveexponentswereclosetothoseobtainedfromnormalMMAemulsionpolymerization.Italsoshowedthattheaveragemolecularweightoftheresultingpoly(methylmethacrylate)decreasedasthepolymerizationtemperature,[I]and[S]increased.Thus,MMAsuspendedemulsionpolymerizationcouldbeconsideredasacombinationofmanyminiatureemulsionpolymerizationsproceedinginwaterdropsandobeyedtheclassicalkineticsofMMAemulsionpolymerization.

  • 简介:Tappingmodeatomicforcemicroscopehasbeenappliedtoobservesingle-chainPMMAparticleswhichwerestoredforsixmonthsatroomtemperatureaftersprayedfromverydilutesolutionsingoodsolvents,good/poormixedsolvents,andathetasolvent.Monodis-persePMMAstandardsofmolecularweightsrangingfrom7.90×10~4to1.3×10~6wereusedtoinvestigatetheeffectofmolecularweightohthesizeofthesingle-chainPMMAparticles.Thesesingle-chainparticlesshowedclosetosphericalshapes.Themorphologyofsingle-chainPMMAparticlesofagivenmolecularweightwasfoundtobeidenticalinspiteofdifferentsolventsusedforsolutionspraying.Molecularweighdependenceoftheparticledimensionwasalsofound.Thediametersofsingle-chainPMMAparticlesaftercorrectionoftlp-geometryeffectwerecomparedtothevaluesestimatedfrommolecularweightanddensity.

  • 简介:Alkali-solubleassociativelatexthickenersmodifiedwithhydrophobiclongchainalkylgroupswerepreparedusingcommonacrylicsandvaryingamountofafunctionalmonomer,ethoxylatedbehenylmethacrylate(BEM),throughemulsionpolymerization.ItwasfoundthatthesizeoftheemulsionparticlebecamelargerwithadditionofBEM.ThelighttransmittanceofthethickenerlatexsharplyincreasedwithpHvariedfrom6to7.Theassociativelatexthickenermanifestedahigherviscositywhensolidsinthelatexthickenerswerekeptat0.5wt%orhigher,andtheoptimalamountofBEMwasfoundtobearound2.5wt%,or0.16mol%.AllthickenerlatexesmodifiedwithBEMhavebettershearingresistancethantheBEM-freethickener.

  • 简介:Poly(ethyleneglycolmonomethylether)methacrylate(PEGMM)wassynthesizedbymeansofthereactionofmethacrylylchloridewithsodiummonomethylpolyethyleneglycoxideandwascharacterizedbyFTIR,~1H-NMR,andultravioletspectrometries.Aseriesofpoly(vinylalcohol)-graft-PEGMM(PVA-g-PEGMM)andmethylmethacrylate-PEGMMcopolymer(PMMA-PEGMM)werepreparedandtestedforantithrombogenicityinvitro.TheresultsindicatethattheantithrombogenicityofthecopolymersbasicallyincreaseswiththeincreasingoftheDPofpolyoxyethylene(POE)chainandtendstoaplateauaftertheDParound114,i.e.thelongchainstructureofPOEisfavourabletotheantithrombogenicityofitscopolymers;moreover,theextentoftheimprovementofantithrombogenicityalsorelatestothePEGMMcontentofthecopolymersandthekindofthematrixthatthePOEchainsarelocatedon.Theseresultsareconsistentwiththeanticipationofthehypothesisofmaintainingproteinsnormalconformationsforbloodcompatiblebioraaterials.
