简介：TheRockyMountainFoothillsliealongtheeasternmarginoftheRockyMountainfold-thrustbelt.TheareahasbeenthefocusofextensiveresearchaimedatlocatingoilandgasfieldswiththepotentialtobeusedasCO_2storagetraps.Inthisstudy,weuseaseismiclinefromtheCanadianRockiestointerpretthegeologicstructuresalongacross-sectionparalleltothetectonictransportdirection.Wethencompareourresultswiththoseofpreviousstudies.ThesectionwasrestoredusingtheMOVEsoftware(manufacturedbyMidlandValleyExplorationLtd.).Theprimaryobjectivesofthisworkare:(1)toconductastratigraphicandstructuralinterpretationofa2Dseismicprofile;and(2)toconductacross-sectionalrestorationofthestructuresinordertovalidatetheseismicinterpretationintermsofCO_2storagecandidates.Additionaldatasourcesincludemapsofthesurfacegeology,whichshowthattheageofhorizonsdecreasefromwesttoeast,andstratigraphicandstructuralprofilesderivedfromwelllogs.Theresultsofourstructuralrestorationindicateadetachmentfaultbetweentheforelandandhinterland.ThisfaultisresponsibleforthecuttingandsubsequentupwardsandeastwardsmovementofastratumlocatedbetweenthebasementandtheLateDevonianformation.Largethrustfaultsareresponsibleforthedeformationofstrata(throughbothfoldingandfaulting)
