简介:Theoptimizationofthefiber-coupledterahertztime-domainspectroscopy(THz-TDS)systemisperformedbychangingthepolarizationoftheopticalexcitationpulsecenteredat1550nm.InGaAs/InAlAsmultilayerstructuresbasedphotoconductiveantennasareusedinTDSsetupasboththeemitterandreceiver.TheexperimentalresultsdemonstratethatnotonlytheTHzsignalpowerbutalsothetemporalwaveformvarywiththerotationoftheexcitingpulsepolarization.Maximumoutputpoweroftheemitterisobtainedwhenthepolarizationofthepumppulseisperpendiculartotheedgeofthemetalelectrodes.AtthismomenttheTHzwaveformisclosetoasingle-cycledpulse.However,doubleTHzpulsescouldberecordedwhenthepumplaserpolarizationisparalleltotheelectrodes.Laserpulsesplittinginducedbythebirefringenceoftheopticalfibermayattributetothepolarizationdependentperformanceofthefiber-coupledTHz-TDSsystem.
简介:Demandresponse(DR)isgainingmoreandmoreimportanceinthearchitectureofpowersystemsinacontextofflexibleloadsandhighshareofintermittentgeneration.ChangesinelectricitymarketsregulationinseveralcountrieshaverecentlyenabledaneffectiveintegrationofDRmechanismsinpowersystems.Throughitsflexiblecomponents(pumps,tanks),drinkingwatersystemsaresuitablecandidatesforenergy-efficientDRmechanisms.However,thesesystemsareoftenmanagedindependentlyofpowersystemoperationforbotheconomicandoperationalreasons.Indeed,asufficientlevelofeconomicviabilityandwaterdemandsriskmanagementarenecessaryforwaterutilitiestointegratetheirflexibilitiestopowersystemoperation.Inthispaper,weproposedamathematicalmodelforoptimizingpumpschedulesinwatersystemswhiletradingDRblocsinaspotpowermarketduringpeaktimes.Uncertaintiesaboutwaterdemandswereconsideredinthemathematicalmodelallowingtoproposepowerreductionscoveringthepotentialriskofreal-timewaterdemandforecastinginaccuracy.NumericalresultswerediscussedonarealwatersysteminFrance,demonstratingbotheconomicandecologicalbenefits.

简介:ThispaperinvestigatestheuntraditionalapproachofcontentionresolutioninWavelengthDivisionMultiplexing(WDM)OpticalPacketSwitching(OPS).Themoststrikingcharacteristicsofthedevelopedswitcharchitectureare:(1)ContentionresolutionisachievedbyacombinedsharingofFiberDelay-Lines(FDLs)andTunableOpticalWavelengthConverters(TOWCs);(2)FDLsarearrangedinnon-degenerateform,i.e.,non-uniformdistributionofthedelaylines;(3)TOWCsjustcanperformwavelengthconversioninpartialcontinuouswavelengthchannels,i.e.,sparsewavelengthconversion.TheconcreteconfigurationsofFDLsandTOWCsaredescribedandanalyzedundernon-burstyandburstytrafficscenarios.Simulationresultsdemonstratethatforaprefixedpacketlossprobabilityconstraint,e.g.,10-6,thedevelopedarchitectureprovidesadifferentpointofviewinOPSdesign.Thatis,combinedsharingofFDLsandTOWCscan,effectively,obtainagoodtradeoffbetweentheswitchsizeandthecost,andTOWCswhichareachievedinsparseformcanalsodecreasetheimplementingcomplexity.
