Whitespotsyndromevirus(WSSV)isoneofthemajorshrimppathogenscausinglargeeconomiclossestoshrimpfarming.Inanattempttoidentifytheenvelopeproteinsinvolvedinthevirusinfection,purifiedWSSVvirionsweremixedwiththreeantiseraagainstWSSVenvelopeproteins(VP39,VP124andVP187),inpidually.Andthentheywereinjectedintramuscularlyintocrayfish(Procambarusclarkii)toconductinvivoneutralizationassays.TheresultsshowedthatforgroupsinjectedwithvirionsonlyandgroupsinjectedwiththemixtureofvirionsandantiserumagainstVP124,thecrayfishmortalitieswere100%and60%onthe8thdaypostinfection,inpidually.ThevirusinfectioncouldbedelayedorneutralizedbyantibodyagainsttheenvelopeproteinVP124.QuantitativePCRwasusedtofurtherinvestigatetheinfluenceofthreeantiseradescribedaboveonthevirusinfection.TheresultsshowedthattheantiserumagainstVP124couldrestrainthepropagationofWSSVincrayfish.AlloftheresultssuggestedthattheviralenvelopeproteinVP124playedaroleinWSSVinfection.
